Free Tools For the Webmaster

by me

Today I am going to tell you about several free tools out there that I use for editing, testing, and maintaining a website.

Code Editor:

Html kit: 292-build - HTML-kit is one of the best html, xhtml, xml, xslt, php, asp, javascript, etc., editors out there, it’s free and easy to use. They have a repository of plug-ins which will make writing any code a breeze. If you want to ftp your work to your website it can do that too. I found it to be one of the easiest to configure.

Testing Server:

Wamp - (Windows Apache MySql PHP) I personally love this testing platform. You can configure the testing server to the specifications, by this I mean change the versions of Apache, MySql, or PHP, of your hosting server. So if you are a little worried about using a content management system, you can test it on your computer before you put it live.

Image Editing:

Paint.NET - When I was looking for image editing software I ran into paint.net and “wow” what an excellent program. Their are so many options to add to this program, it’ll blow you away. I keep wondering, why they don’t charge for this program? I think it is easier to learn than photoshop.

File Transfer Protocol client:

Core FTP LE - One of the easiest FTP clients out there and it’s free.

Browser for live testing:

FireFox - Sorry but IE7 can’t even hold FireFox’s jock. Firefox is just that good and when you add the Web Developer add-on you get a WYSIWYG editor. Well just for html and css. But it is also good for debugging javascript with it’s error console. Well I hope these tools help make you life a little simpler
